Sir John Gieve is Chairman of VocaLink, the main provider of payment systems in the UK, and a non-executive director of CLS, the forex settlement system, and of Morgan Stanley International.

John has spent most of his career in senior positions working with successive UK Governments in treasury and financial roles and as a consequence has a strong understanding of UK public policy and financial services.

Sir John Gieve is Chairman of VocaLink, the main provider of payment systems in the UK, and a non-executive director of CLS, the forex settlement system, and of Morgan Stanley International.

John has spent most of his career in senior positions working with successive UK Governments in treasury and financial roles and as a consequence has a strong understanding of UK public policy and financial services.

John speaks on the future of banking, global financial systems and related topics. John spent twenty years at the UK Treasury, involved in banking and City regulation, energy, public services and the Budget. He carried out spending reviews for both Labour and Conservative governments and served as Private Secretary to three Chancellors: Nigel Lawson, John Major and Norman Lamont.

After the Treasury, John became Permanent Secretary at the Home Office during a period when the department was responding to the increased terrorist threat in the wake of 9/11. John continued his public service at the Bank of England from 2006-9 as Deputy Governor for Financial Stability. He was also a member of the Monetary Policy Committee which sets interest rates in the UK and a board member of the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
